Claudio Arrau's appreciation |
Pianist Glenn Gould's recordings of six Haydn's late piano sonatas met with Claudio Arrau's approving recognition when stating to a journalist of Le Nouvel Observateur (in as late as early June 1991) that he still wanted to record works by various composers, including "thrilling Haydn", of whom he had finally found the appropriate style, along the lines of Glenn Gould's approach. |
Martha Argerich's appreciation |
Pianist Martha Argerich states, in a French interview conducted in 2002, to have been overwhelmingly impressed as a 6-year-old child by Claudio Arrau interpreting Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.4 at the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires in 1947. The slow middle movement caused a spellbinding, standing effect on her - the most important musical impression of her life. She points out that she does not play this concerto for fear of what might happen... |
